This presentation will focus on discussing the results of a recently conducted survey on Safety Pharmacology investigations of the nervous system, as well as the challenges related to designing and interpreting data from these studies. The results discussed will be compared to those collected from a similar survey conducted in 2015 (for results see Authier et al., 2016). Both surveys provide insights on the professional backgrounds and the experiences of respondents in designing various safety pharmacology studies targeting the nervous system. These studies include seizure liability, FOB/Irwin, peripheral nerve, abuse liability, and polysomnography (sleep) studies. Together, these insights will position attendees to understand the current state of the art for safety pharmacology investigations in the nervous system, the similarities and differences between results from the recent and past survey (Authier et al., 2016), as well as the challenges related to designing safety pharmacology studies and interpreting data collected from them.
